Training

Higham believes in providing extensive training to all team members. Investing in individuals not only gives them the skills to complete the task required safely but also encourages their desire to improve, confidence in their own ability to deliver and pride in their work.

Where possible all training courses completed are delivered by accredited training organisations.

Higham are continually reviewing their training and ensuring that the team are offered the most up to date, relevant training and team members are encouraged to come forward and suggest training that they feel they may benefit from. All requested courses are investigated to assess their suitability and should the course be considered beneficial then the individual will be booked to attend.

• Environmental Awareness
• Health & Safety at Work
• Harness Inspection
• Hoist inspection and Maintenance
• Site Safety Plus – Covid-19
• Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery
• Equality and Diversity at Work
• GDPR Knowledge and Awareness
• PAT testing

Higham believes that all operatives attending site should have a core basis of training to ensure that the safety of them and any others around them is never compromised. These core skills are as follows:
• CSCS skills card – to be applicable to the work level for which that individual is engaged
• Asbestos Awareness
• H&S Awareness
• Working at Heights
• Safe2Torch Awareness
Note: All site operatives also have an enhanced DBS check and carry an ID card with their DBS number printed on it.


Once the initial core training has been completed, individuals are selected to complete further training to develop their skills.
Further training could include any of the following:
• Non-Licenced Asbestos Removal
• SMSTS
• Use of Harness and Lanyards
• Safe use of hoists
• Manual Handling
• Abrasive Wheels
• Three day First Aid
• Scaffold Inspection
• Rescue Gene
• NVQ II
• PASMA
• Fire Warden
• IPAF 3a & 3b
• IPAF 1b
• NPORS Traffic Marshall
• NPORS Telehandler
Individuals who are selected to complete SMSTS training and become site supervisors also will complete three day first aid and scaffold inspection as a minimum to complement the SMSTS qualification.
