Green Roofs

With clients increasingly looking to environmentally friendly options, Higham is pleased to be able to offer the option of a green roofing system.

Green roofs can become an attractive proposition when exploring solutions which benefit the environment. A green roof can be planted and / or seeded with a wide range of wildflowers with sedums added if required. This can encourage many interesting native invertebrate species to take up residence. Wildflower green roofs are especially good for pollinators such as bees. In addition to this a green roof can provide important foraging habitat for birds and in some cases can be used by ground nesting birds depending on the size and character of the roof.

A green roof is not all about biodiversity, it can also offer insulating qualities and noise reduction.

Many suppliers are now offering recycled and reclaimed materials in the landscaping components of their green roofs, therefore making this an increasingly eco-friendly option.
